    Hi all,

The commodore will share wheels forks and engine with the FB equivalent Cruiser, but nothing else, tinware and saddles are notoriously difficult for the Commodore and nothing FB will be any use to you

    Thanks JH,
Luckily I have a complete bike, it was missing front spindle. I guess someone took the front wheel off for some reason and that’s how it sat until rescued by me!
I will look on here for FB cruiser parts.

    Many thanks!

Barnett & James Empty Front spindle

There are 3 types , the pre 1960 Commodores will have a fixed spindle which is retained by a sleeve nut at each end, if you need this type look at the bottom of the forks part of the underside of the legs will be cut away, 1960/61 knock through loose spindle ( forks are the same as before, but are not cut away on the underside of the spindle slot, 1962 onwards square bottomed MkII forks , different knock through spindle

    Ahh interesting,
The bike was registered in 1961. I’m sure the forks have no cut away. Are the knock through loose spindle parts available ? Is this spindle held on with a “nut” on one end only?

Yes it will be a seperate spindle with a tommy bar end at one end and a thread for a nut at the other end, it will be the same as a matchless G2, AJS Model 14 and the Norton Jubilee of the same period, so might be worth asking AMC Classic spares, or Jampot spares, both if which deal in AMC 4 strokes, or the Norton Owners club spares
