Very nice job, I note you have an age related number, I see in the unrestored pic that there was an old tax disc so presumably you know the original number but it was not on the DVLA and you could not recover it. Sadly DVLA will no longer accept tax disc on its own to recover the number and I assume the old log book has got lost.

Yes, you are spot on John, FJL 921 a Lincolnshire reg was the original and dvla would not use tax disc as prof of reg . but with the very much appreciated help from our JH we have an age related number and she on the road Alan Laughing

If you have not done so you could try Lincolnshire Archives, St Rumbold Street, Lincoln, LN2 5AB tel 01522 782040 to see if they have the original licencing record (which must include frame number) you could then reclaim number using a certified copy of that.
DVLA would then take back the age related and issue the original.

JL and DO were both Lincolnshire as said . The office was at Carlton House Boston but will be gone now.

I have been a dating officer since 1994 for the FBOC and all avenues were exhausted before Alan was forced down the age related route ( Granny/suck eggs) Believe me if there had been paperwork prior to 1984 clearly stating the chassis and registration number ( county archive, dealer's receipt,VE60,RF60 etc) Alan's bike would have retained it's original number, the age-related option was all DVLA had as a recourse.
Only a percentage of counties records still exist and very few record the chassis No's Coventry, Essex and Hampshire have all sometimes succeeded for me, but most others only record date, reg No and original applicant , the Lincolnshire archive was no use in this instance .
We even got one back recently from a 1956 RAC breakdown form !

My mate works in the Aylesbury Archives & does the registration requests for Bucks (BH, KX & PP). He states that the Chassis numbers are present up to the early 70's. He also reports that Nottinghamshire are similarly endowed. Just a nugget to store John.

Some records from Nottinghamshire exist, but only up to 1955 at Nottinghamshire archive, Kithead trust also have some card index files to 1946

It was a 1966 so could be why they said they had no records.
