Hi
I'm busy fabricating a rear stand for my rigid J****s, I have made a frame and got it swinging and stopping in the right places but I cannot work out how the spring fits to hold it up. I've in parts list instruction manuals and can't find any details. Does anybody have a picture or any details of how it works.

Hi

If it turns out you want a rear stand, send me a PM and I will take any photo measurement that may help from my FB Model 4b.

Cheers

John
I know you are right as I have now found a book for the 52 Cadet that shows a centre stand the one I was working off was a BMS reprint which does not show a year but it definitely shows a rear stand which is what I was hoping to create. I only have a side stand and when you want to do any work I have to lift it onto axle stands under the footrests so I thought a rear stand would be perfect.
I've got so far with it pivots holds nicely against the stop I just need to work out how to hold it up with either a spring or a catch.

rear - Rigid frame rear stand. Empty REAR STAND

Post  piston 197 on Wed Feb 20, 2019 11:47 am

Mike the images on James i can find from 1949 to 1954 ( rigid frames) all show a centre stand, although if you go to Google images and put in James 1949 Cadet, there is an unrestored one with a rear stand, so presumably they did one in 1949, maybe an option ?, certainly the earlier ML machines 1939 to 1948 including Military ones had a centre stand ? The only machines from James i have seen post war with a rear stand are the autocyles, even the 98cc Comet had a centre stand. Not sure where BMS got their images from, but i think it will be hard to find a decent picture?

John
At least there is one with a rear stand the BMS book shows the stand as Part No L1191.

It shows a variety of front forks and also a plunger rear but no Centre stand.

I think i'll try and get this working and then lookout for a centre stand.
