There is a Ex-Yorkshire police falcon on Ebay, it looks correct an has the correct police petrol tank, but the silencer while looking original is one i have never seen before with a cone shaped end ? perhaps the police wanted to sneak up on you quietly ?? and unusually it is fitted with an earlier valanced type mudguard although this looks original to the bike as well, toolbox looks like it was fitted with twin batteries as well ?

Yorkshire police Falcon Empty Yorkshire Police FB's

Interesting bike, it looks as if North Yorkshire police (Middlesborough) had a soft spot for Francis Barnett, since in 1964 they purchased several Cruiser 89's. Yes, it does look as if this Falcon had additional batteries, as did some of the police spec Cruiser 89's with an external battery. Sandy

It may be my eyes but does the speedo and maybe the ammeter look oversize compared to standard?

Yorkshire police Falcon Empty speedo and ammeter

Both look right to me , although glass is broken on speedo, just badly installed is my guess ? or rubber beneath ?

Post  piston 197 on Tue Jan 29, 2019 1:36 pm

It looked to be missing the rear guard, i can help with one of these if it is not there

Good to see it being saved at least unlike the heartbeat police bikes it is a real police bike !

Thanks John,

Looks like I do require a rear guard so that could be helpful!

May be an obvious question but what distinguishes it as a police bike exactly is it the colour scheme?

Regards

No this was a STD colour scheme and the frame No. should have BW after the numbers to show the coulour scheme, the unique parts are the petrol tank with rear mounted filler and studs to mount a telephone set, silencer, twin battery compartment, Possibly 12 Volt electics ?? otherwise much as the normal road bike falcon 87

Thanks John,

Should the rear guard be in black or the Dover white? any colour codes would be appreciated.

So I could do with a tank mounted radio and the battery covers also by the looks of it.

Yorkshire police Falcon Empty paint

I would expect the rear guard and side panels to be white, the side panels are the same pressing from 1955 to 1966, but the ones you need have 2 fasteners on them as used from 1960 onwards, the earlier ones have one fastener ( in a different position) and one hinge

Yorkshire police Falcon Empty frame and engine No's

Post  piston 197 on Mon Feb 04, 2019 5:06 pm

C= 1961
F = Falcon 87
90819 = serial No.
BW =Black/White
P = Police

The 20T 5786 would also be 1961 as Engine No.s from September 1960 started 20T 4488 and ran to September 1961 at 20T 7071 and yours fits nicely in this sequence, so every chance it is an original pairing, but with no factory records to check , we may never know ??
