Thanks John. I was just working out how to contact you!

Regarding the ML - I'm sure that's what it is as it's 90% complete but I have no paperwork so the year is debatable (I think I was told by my late Dad it was '34 but as you say, it's probably later). However, for now, its the '58 Commordore I would like some help with.....

I have a 1958 James Commodore which passed to me when my dad died in 1989 and somewhere over the years, I must have lost the log book. Just before Christmas, I wrote to the DVLA (using a v55/5) to request a new/replacement v5 log book. To support my request I supplied:
- copies of tax discs from 1961 - 1966 showing the current registration number UMJ 515
- the original owners manual (containing registration number, engine and frame number),
- copies of photos taken when my dad bought the bike in 1980 (next to his new van) and,
- current photos of the bike showing frame, engine and registration number).

I have just received a reply from the DVLA to say they are unable to process my request as they do not hold a record for the motorcycle registration number. They go on to say, if the reg number is correct and I'm able to prove documentary entitlement to it, I may be able to keep the number. They have stated that I need to check with the Owners Club and if the Club accepts my application, I may be able to keep the registration number and have a v5 issued - after posting on the James Facebook page someone suggested I join the FBOC and speak to you John.

Also - I think the bike was first registered in Leeds (UM) so I've just (this morning) sent an email to the West Yorkshire Archive Service.
